GRUPO AVAL HOLDING RANKINGS AND AWARDS
Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes: We were included in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index for the seventh consecutive year, and in 2025 we received a score of 82 out of 100, reaching the 95th percentile and strengthening our position among the top-performing companies in sustainability.
Latin America Inclusive Companies Ranking: In 2026, we ranked 11th among the region’s most inclusive organizations. This recognition highlights our efforts to foster a culture based on respect, equity, and inclusion.
We were recognized by Forbes Colombia as one of the 25 leading companies in sustainability for 2024, reflecting our commitment to the UN Sustainable Development Goals. In addition, María Lorena Gutiérrez, president of Grupo Aval, was named CEO of the Year for 2025 and, along with María Fernanda Suárez (Banco Popular), Ana Milena López (Corfi), and Ana Margarita Albir (ADL Digital Lab), was included in the 2025 100 Most Powerful Women ranking.
Merco Empresas: We were recognized as the second most reputable conglomerate in Colombia, moving up 13 spots in the 2025 Merco Empresas ranking. Merco Líderes: Two of our leaders were recognized in Merco Líderes: María Lorena Gutiérrez (11th) and Luis Carlos Sarmiento Gutiérrez (24th).
BVC: Grupo Aval, Banco de Bogotá, Banco Popular, and Corfi received BVC's IR recognition.
Friendly Biz Client: Grupo Aval and all of our subsidiaries received the Friendly Biz recertification, awarded for the sixth consecutive year by the Diversity Chamber, recognizing our commitment to inclusion and diversity.
Grupo Aval Acciones y Valores S.A. received international recognition by being included in the S&P Global Sustainability Yearbook 2026, after achieving a score of 81 out of 100 on the 2025 Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA), which evaluates the environmental, social, and governance performance of leading global companies.
Our founder, Luis Carlos Sarmiento Angulo, was honored with the Order of Business Merit, awarded by the ANDI, in recognition of his career and contribution to the country’s business development.
Fintech Américas awarded us the SILVER Prize for Colombia in the Payment Solutions category at the Country Awards for the Tag Aval project, following a highly competitive process with more than 350 nominations, solidifying our position as a leader in innovation and transformation in banking and financial services in Latin America.
Our President, María Lorena Gutiérrez, and Maria Fernanda Suárez-President of Banco Popular-—were recognized by La República as two of the 25 leading figures in business, finance, and the economy in 2025, highlighting their leadership in the consolidation of Aval Fiduciaria and the strengthening of Banco Popular, respectively.
Luis Carlos Sarmiento Angulo, founder of Grupo Aval, and Maria Lorena Gutiérrez, president, were recognized by Merco Lideres in 24th and 11th place, respectively, as was María Fernanda Suárez of Banco Popular, in 45th place, and César Prado of Banco de Bogotá at No. 57, reflecting the strength and leadership of their careers in the country.
In 2025, Grupo Aval raised its rating to BBB in the MSCI ESG ranking, driven primarily by progress in the social pillar-thanks to the strengthening of responsible investment, which exceeded the industry average—and by outstanding governance, supported by robust corporate ethics and anti-corruption policies.

- Aval enters the banking sector with the acquisition of Banco de Occidente Credencial.
- The Las Villas Savings and Housing Corporation is founded.


1991 a 1992
- Acquisition and consolidation of Banco de Bogotá.
- Foundation of the Porvenir Severance Fund.
- Porvenir expands its portfolio to become a Pension and Severance Fund.
- Acquisition of Banco del Comercio and merger with Banco de Bogotá.


1997 a 1999
- Acquisition of Banco Popular and Ahorramás.
- Acquisition of financial corporations, which were later merged to form Corficolombiana.

1998 a 1999
- Grupo Aval begins operations.
- Grupo Aval’s initial public offering on the Colombian Stock Exchange (BVC).


2000 a 2007
- Grupo Aval conducted its second stock offering on the Colombian market.
- Acquisition of Megabanco, Banco Aliadas, and Banco Unión Colombiano.
- Merger of Ahorramás and Las Villas.


2010 a 2011
- Registration with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC)
- Acquisition of BAC Credomatic.
- Acquisition of shares from related parties to consolidate 93.7% of Banco Popular.
- A local offering of US$1.1 trillion represents the largest placement in the Colombian capital market by a private company.
- Grupo AVAL issues preferred shares worth COP$2.08 trillion.


2012 a 2013
- Grupo Aval and Banco de Bogotá issue bonds on the international market for US$1.6 billion and US$1.1 billion, respectively.
- The acquisition of BBVA Horizonte is completed and it subsequently merges with Porvenir.
- The acquisitions of BBVA Panama and Grupo Reformador in Guatemala are completed.
- Grupo Aval issues common stock worth $2.4 trillion.
- Shareholding in Banco de Bogotá and Banco de Occidente is increased.

2014 a 2018
- Grupo Aval issues preferred shares in the form of ADRs on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE).
- Direct ownership stakes in Banco de Bogotá and Banco de Occidente are increased.
- Grupo Aval acquires a direct ownership stake in Corficolombiana.

2019 a 2020
- Grupo Aval issues bonds on the domestic market for $400 billion.
- Grupo Aval issues bonds on the international market for US$1.0 trillion.
- The acquisition of Multi Financial Group of Panama is completed.

2021 a 2022
- A 75% spin-off of BHI (BAC Holding International Corp.) in favor of Banco de Bogotá’s shareholders, and a spin-off in favor of Grupo Aval’s shareholders of the shares received from BHI.
- Banco de Bogotá participated in a tender offer for BHI’s common shares, selling 20.89% of its stake.

2024 a 2025
- In December 2024, Grupo Aval completed the acquisition of 94.5% of Aval Fiduciaria (formerly Fiduciaria Corficolombiana) and 40.7% of Aval Casa de Bolsa (formerly Casa de Bolsa), and the creation of Aval Banca de Inversión was approved; the company was incorporated on January 13, 2025.

El dueño y fundador del Grupo Aval es Luis Carlos Sarmiento Angulo, un empresario colombiano que ha construido uno de los conglomerados empresariales más importantes del país, siendo su familia el principal accionista, con su hijo, Luis Carlos Sarmiento Gutiérrez, también involucrado en la dirección.
Fundado en 1870, el Banco de Bogotá es la institución financiera de mayor trayectoria en el país, el tercer banco más grande de Colombia por tamaño de activos y la compañía más grande del Grupo Aval por su nivel de activos.
